Yesterday evening, a store listing for Mojang Studios’ popular sandbox game Minecraft appeared on Steam. While the fake listing was quickly removed from the platform, it stuck around long enough to give the game’s community a false sense of hope that the title would soon be hitting Valve’s popular storefront.
On the 12th of June at approximately 6:25PM UTC, a new store listing appeared on Steam under the name of ‘Minecraft’. The listing included official marketing images for Minecraft, a release date of December 31, 2024, and a description that read, “Explore, build, and survive in a blocky, pixelated world of endless possibilities with Minecraft.”

Minecraft fans didn’t take too kindly to an image that appeared in Jack Black’s trailer.
Within a matter of hours, the listing was removed. But that’s all it took for people to be fooled into thinking that developer Mojang Studios would be bringing the game to Steam.
Over on SteamDB, which is an unofficial backend database that tracks everything on Steam, the listing has been marked as fake and no longer appears on Valve’s storefront….
