Netflix has recently announced that Minecraft will be turned into an animated series. As the best-selling video game of all time with over 300 million copies sold worldwide, there is already a fanbase ready for the upcoming series.
The project has been handed to WildBrain Studios, the company behind another popular video game adaptation Sonic Prime, as well as other hit animated series, Carmen Sandiego and Ninjago: Dragons Rising. WildBrain will work in collaboration with Mojang Studios, the original developer of Minecraft.
The series was announced 30 May, following on from the 15-day celebration of the iconic game’s 15th birthday. The series is set to “tell an original story with new characters and reflect the world of Minecraft in a new light”. Minecraft released a teaser trailer on their YouTube channel featuring some of the game’s most iconic scenes and sounds, with a creeper crossing the screen and exploding to reveal a lava filled cave before zooming in on Netflix’s iconic logo.
Fans are both nervous and excited, with nearly two million combined views on the Minecraft and Netflix announcement trailers and thousands of comments on both videos expressing their delight, concerns, and hope for the series.
